Resources on Educational Costs
There is a wide variety of resources you should consult when estimating your educational costs.

  • School Catalog - for general information on tuition and other costs. Remember that catalogs are generally printed a year or two earlier and may not reflect any increased tuition that is usually determined in the spring for the following academic term.
  • School Web Site - is often the most useful tool. You can have many of your questions answered while reviewing the site. You can also learn about ways the school is involved in the community and what students do on a daily basis.
  • Financial Aid Office or Student Financial Services - for standard student budgets for your program and status (single, campus housing, married, how much is estimated each month for living, etc.).
  • School Bursar or Student Accounts Office - for information on the actual costs that are billed to you each semester. Remember that some items appearing on your bill may not be reflected on the budgets published by the Financial Aid Office. These extra costs may include student activity fees, gym fees, computer usage fees and special course registration fees.
  • Academic Program or Department - may provide information on grants, scholarships and employment opportunities.
  • Current Students - can be great for giving you information on hidden costs and ways to save money.

Here at StudentLoanNet.com, you'll find valuable information on federal and private loans, online applications and borrower benefits. There is an abundance of additional resources and guidance on the Web:

  • www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p970.pdf - is the Internal Revenue Service document which describes student tax benefits.
  • www.aamc.org/medloans - provides information on financing your graduate medical school education.
  • www.nfcc.org (National Foundation for Credit Counseling) - is a non-profit network offering information on debt, credit and budgeting.
  • www.homeadvisor.msn.com - provides information on finding an apartment or house around the country.
